By having class sets of books, our classroom will be able to foster and embrace a love of reading together. As a class and in small groups, students will fearlessly predict what may happen next. They will make connections based on their own experiences, the world, and other texts. Through discussion and activities, students will discover the author's craft. Each of these discoveries will be used for a deeper understanding of the story line. The books will allow ESL students will make connections between written and spoken words. Each student will improve their oral reading fluency by actively participating in the read aloud. They will foster an understanding of when to pause at punctuation and when it is appropriate to add expression. Students will apply each of the skills learning during read aloud to their own reading.
