When my students hear that it is indoor recess, I often hear, "hmmmm why?!" and "Oh, no!!" Let's just say indoor recess isn't their favorite thing. They love to be able to socialize and exercise outside, but I can't have them outside during the freezing winters or during the unpredictable spring.
So my challenge is to make indoor recess fun, exciting and educational! Bring in the STEM activities!
My students love being able to build and create. I want to give them a chance to engineer, imagine and explore. I want indoor recess to give them the freedom to build without reason and to push their STEM minds! STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math.
I am already envisioning what STEM indoor recess would be all about. Students could engineer with Legos. Something that some children get plenty of opportunity to do, but some children in my class don't have that opportunity. Snap Circuit boards will be used to explore how electronics work. This board will give my students the background knowledge of how electricity works. The students can create one of the many circuits that is modeled for them or use their own imagination to create their own. Botley the Coding Robot will give the students a chance to see coding come to life! The students love to code on the different apps but imagine how surprised they'll be when they get to code for a robot! IQ Builder STEM toys would be great to allow the students to engineer using their own imaginations, but I think I will pose a challenge to them to create different solutions to a problem. Lastly, WITKA Magnet Building Toy will help my students explore with magnets while also allowing them to build. All of these activities would help grow their curiousity!
