I am currently an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher at S L Elementary in Vicksburg, MI. I teach three to six year old preschool students with all types of disabilities. At S L 37.7% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. In my classroom alone 61% qualify for free and reduced lunch. I currently have three students who are non-verbal and could benefit from using an iPod touch to communicate with their peers. I also have many autistic students who would benefit from an iPod touch due to the fact that they would have to socialize and they would gain some amazing social skills. Technology is an integral part of our society and the educational world. Teaching and utilizing technology at an early age can increase motivation and provide new experiences and understanding. Adding technology into an early childhood special education classroom can enhance students learning, attention, communication, creativity and social skills.
