Do you remember the first time you saw yourself reflected in a book? We are trying to build our classroom library with books that reflect the world around us. Books that students can connect with and are interested in reading. We learn so much more about ourselves and others through the books that we read. Not only are we becoming better readers, we are also learning, growing, exploring and traveling as we turn each page. My students will use our new books to learn about cultures and places around the world. They will also be able to use the reading strategies that I've taught them to become better readers. Before we can accomplish these goals, we must have books we can connect to.
