Making my curriculum current, relevant and exciting has always been my goal as an educator. When I first started teaching I was a drama teacher, but now I am a special education English teacher to students with disabilities. All of my classes are mixed grade ability levels. Listening to my students express their desire to read the same novels as their peers has given me the driving force to locate novels that are age appropriate for them and fun to read. My desire is to acquire graphic novels of some of the literature that is required in most schools districts such as "Romeo & Juliet". They would feel discouraged to read this play in its original format. Graphic novels have the beauty of giving my students confidence to understand a well-loved Shakespearean play. This would allow them to feel part of the whole and understand the basic story line. Hopefully, I can fill my shelves with books students love and feel inspired to understand. Please consider helping a classroom teacher like myself gather materials that would bless the lives of others.
