With this books, students will be able to apply their Social Studies and Science standards through literacy and apply STEAM as they read. Students will use Engineering Challenges to consider the issues associated with tunneling under the Berlin Wall, much like Gerta and her brother do throughout this novel, A NIght Divided, in efforts to be reunited with their family in West Berlin. By reading this book, students will get to have hands-on application of activities described throughout the novel. Students will consider the historical and social connections, both past and present, in association with the Berlin Wall and communism, while applying Science standards associated with geology and weather. The students will fall in love with this book and the hands-on activities that we will add to it.
