Students deserve choices. Choices in learning styles. Choices in demonstrating knowledge. Choices in seating. Yes, choices in seating. When students are able to choose how and where they sit, they are better able to focus on their task at hand. Standing desks that can be raised and lowered and adjustable wobble chairs will provide students with one seating choice. Lightweight stools will allow students to easily move from one area of the room to another, as will additional wobble chairs. A reading classroom should be a place where students can walk in, feel at home, and not worry about their struggles. The flexible seating choices I want to offer my students will give them freedom of movement while reading, as well as freedom to move around the room. This will engage both their bodies and their minds. They will be better able to focus on their learning, providing them the opportunity to grow as readers.
