Much of chemistry is calculations-based, so for much of the school year, each student needs to grab a calculator on their way in the door to start the lesson for the day. Although group work can be a good activity, it is still important for each child to have their own calculator to understand WHAT is being entered in for each calculation and HOW each part of the calculation is entered into the calculator. With limited resources, this can be an issue, and test-taking is an issue when calculators must be shared. Each child deserves to have the basic tools and resources to make each day at school a successful one. The calculators that I chose have the basic functions that are needed for every type of calculation that the students will end up learning throughout the year.
