Environment shapes experience! We all work best when we are comfortable and feel secure in our environment; the same goes for students. It may be at a table or in a quiet corner where they work the best. My classroom is full of energetic middle school students. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clip boards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The futon and armless chairs will allow a comfortable environment for a classroom library. The metal chairs will replace broken chairs at a small table and the lap desks will allow students to work around the room on the floor. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and provide positive incentives. Research shows that allowing students to sit in comfortable, flexible seating options greatly enhances their focus. With a fulfilled project, my classroom would change quite a bit. I would be able to offer my students a variety of seating options based on what best meets their needs.
