Kindergarten is a wonderful grade! For many students it is their first experience in a structured school setting. Students are meeting new friends, learning to read and write and discovering new things each day!
Five and six year old children learn best through play. However, today's standards and expectations makes that increasingly difficult. Our Kindergarten classrooms have implemented Guided Math into the school day. Students are taught in small groups with instruction that meets their learning needs. While focused on one group the remainder of the students are working independently. We have found that providing our independent groups with materials they can use to create is not only engaging but provides them with additional “learning through play time” that has become so limited each day.
The building materials I am requesting will be used as a station during math rotations. Our current supply of materials is very limited. My students would benefit from a greater variety of materials to help them express their creativity. Students will be able to select a building toy that interests them and gets their creative juices flowing. Tomorrow’s engineers and artists are in my classroom today. I am excited to see what theses young creative minds can design and produce!
