The materials that were selected towards this project will be used to create several sensory stations within my classroom.
"Tell me, and I forget. Teach me, and I remember. Involve me, and I learn." is one of the quotes that remains true to the teaching style in my classroom filled with diverse and differentiated learners. These augmentative communication devices and sensory tools will help my students achieve success as student and teacher involvement will be required as we use each item, leading to inevitable success.
English Language Arts/ Science/ Social Studies/ Math
This year marks my 15th year teaching a group of amazing students in Myrtle Beach, SC. My classroom is composed of a diverse group of students, from Kindergartners to 5th graders, many of which have an extremely varied, diversified set of needs. In particular, this year my class is composed of students on the Autism Spectrum as well as some non -verbal learners. These students who need proprioceptive input on a continuous basis to participate in our curriculum and instruction will benefit from the sensory tools involved in this project. Those students who are non -verbal will benefit from the augmentative communication devices to participate in our curriculum and instruction.
During whole group instruction; the students needing proprioceptive input can sit on the yoga ball chair and bounce while being engaged in direct instruction. Those students who are non -verbal can take advantage of the augmentative communication devices to participate in and during direct instruction and small group follow - up activities.
All of these materials will allow students to search and explore for content vocabulary, symbols, and objects related to each monthly unit.
