Seeing students make their own pillows, zipper totes, quilts, mug rugs is amazing. Fabric, zippers, quilt batting, and pillow stuffing is a must for my students. We also use a lot of math while creating our projects. Students must measure fabric and sew with a precise quarter inch seam. My students have created a quilt to raffle for library money. They have also created lap quilts to donate to our area nursing home. This activity is a great way to create a sense of pride by creating handmade fabric projects. Being able to donate items to the needy is a wonderful way to show a sense of pride in the community.
