In AVID Collaborative Study Groups (CSGs), students identify a specific question from a content area, collaborate to develop and deepen their understanding through Socratic inquiry, and apply their new learning in order to enhance classroom performance. Collaborative Study Groups are a critical component of our AVID class. The skills include inquiry, note-taking, organization, collaboration, communication, and numerous other skills necessary for college readiness. Color coding is a proven method not just for note-taking, but general organizing as well. These materials are engaging to students and allow them to carry out their collaborative group work, reflect on their work and communicate with other peer groups.
