My project is to help teach communication skills to my students. I have selected items that will help them to identify different locations in the classroom. The items are sensory based and will be located in different areas in the room. Each location in the classroom is to help my students feel comfortable. When they are relaxed and excited to learn they are able to express their wants and needs with pictures, words with pictures, and/ or sounds from communication devices. Words do not come easy for them. So they struggle to use items in their surrounding to communicate. The fidgets, ribbon bells, pattern block builders and other items from this project will help students who can't express feelings through words reach the world. We all have different forms of communication. My students need extra support to communicate. Using other objects in the classroom allows me to show them different ways to communicate with the items.
