Small group instruction at a kidney table allows for excellent discussion, collaboration between students, and individualized learning. In our classroom, there is a wide range of ability levels. With various ability levels and a mix of personalities, whole group instruction isn't always the most effective way for learning to take place. However, when working in small groups, students are able to hold constructive discussions, ask appropriate questions, and show higher order thinking/reasoning/problem solving skills. As a teacher, I am able to make modifications to the lessons being taught based on the students needs as well as closely monitor students progress. Having a kidney table in the classroom would allow differentiated learning to take place for each subject, while fostering interpersonal relationships at the same time. My students love to work in small groups and collaborate together, but currently lack the proper table space to do so. Having this table will give my students the space they need to be successful and become great leaders!
