Flexible seating is essentially differentiated seating which gives students more options as to which type of seat works best for their learning style. This is particularly helpful during independent reading and writing activities for kindergarten students. Students are more comfortable, allowing them to focus for longer periods of time. Students are able to move throughout the day which results in less disruptive behavior and ultimately leads to higher academic achievement. It also allows the students to choose for themselves what is comfortable and best for them as well as lends itself to a more collaborative classroom with pairs of students and small groups working together.
