I am an advocate of exercise in little bodies. Many students do not get the movement they require to be successful in school or at home. I know that giving kids multiple ways to get sensory input while sitting will ensure we meet those needs.The items I have requested allow my students to move while learning. I interviewed my current students and they told me what they like about the few items I have in my room that allow movement. One child with autism explained that the scoop rocker we have helps him to be calm while rocking. They also said they enjoy being able to choose different seats that make them comfortable. Yoga mats have been requested so that we may incorporate more mindful, quiet movement in our class. The wobble chairs are perfect for little bodies that need to move while also listening to a lesson. I hope to create a classroom that is meant for small children and a place they are excited to come to each day. Classroom organization is also very important in our room as we don't always have a lot of space so the carpet dots will give the children a sense of ownership in their own spot to work. I have found that kids love to work on the floor as do I. I understand allowing children to choose can sometimes be overwhelming, but if there are plenty of options in our flexible seating, I trust they will be happier and more successful.
