When I was in fifth grade, my teacher read The Phantom Tollbooth to our class. I remember all of the characters posted around the room. I remember his excitement when he read it and introduced the many characters. This book quickly became my favorite book I read as a child. After state assessments this year, I would love to sit and read this book with my students. In order to keep them engaged in learning, each student should be able to sit and follow along with their own copy. In addition to being able to follow along, students will be able to fully participate in literature circle discussions by going back in the text to justify points they make during discussions. Students will continue their learning through discussions, chapter check points, and writing prompts based on the book. One thing my students and I have in common is our love of reading. Through the funding of this project, I will have the opportunity to share a favorite childhood book with my class while continuing to build relationships with them, even at the end of the school year.
