Technical Theatre is an odd elective for a rural school to offer, let alone fund; however, we have several students a year go through our program where they will learn the basic skills of stage construction, scenic design, lighting, and much more. What I love about these students is that a new lesson in the theatre can both frighten and empower them which gives them confidence both on and off the stage. The teamwork and dedication necessary to pull off a theatrical performance is astounding, and I want to provide my students with as much support as possible. My Technical Theatre class is a unique space where a plethora of diverse students come together and build sets for plays and musicals completing 2 shows per year. Most of these students have no previous connection to the theatre and take the course as an elective, but, by the time they move on, not only have they gained insight into the teamwork and problem solving it takes to produce theatre, but they have also learned the basics of measurement, power tool operation, and building construction. This course was created almost 10 years ago with generous funding from our district and, as would be expected, our space is dated and not functioning to its full potential. The items I'm requesting will help us re-design our current space and reconfigure our current setup to better assist our program.
