Students with the access of coding at such an early age can help spark excitement and curiosity leading to our students delving into the realm of computer science or engineering in their professional lives. Codesters opens the door for our young students, giving them the opportunity to learn coding in a fun and intimidating manner. The project based lessons give students the opportunity to explore coding, computational thinking, algorithms, and web and game design. As a former computer programmer, I would like our community to consider computer science will be a large part of their future world, Codesters gives an excellent opportunity to learn about programming but also gain strength in their problem solving ability. We have started using Codesters as an after school program and our students absolutely love it. I would like to incorporate Codesters into my math classroom to help open the door for some more engaging activities. Unfortunately, the majority of my students do not have access to technology at home. Having students take the time to work on Codesters in school will help them gain the necessary skills to be college or career ready when the day comes. Students will be able to work with their friends on individual laptops, creating projects, writing custom code, and developing their own web pages. Having access to more laptops at our Title 1 school will allow our students to reach higher goals even if financially it is too challenging to obtain some materials.
