These art supplies, hand strengthening materials(theraputty, modelling clay, etc) and games("don't break the ice") will go a long way in helping my student to achieve their occupational therapy goals. Research has shown that children learn best when all their senses are engaged in the learning process. For example, when a child forms letters out of clay while saying the name of the letter, their brain forms a connection that solidifies learning. The materials I've listed such as wikistix and modelling clay can play a crucial role in this learning process. Many of my students also have difficulty using their hands and eyes in a coordinated manner to write. Activities such as creating bracelets by stringing small beads, are a fun way to improve children's hand/eye coordination and help them to achieve their OT goals.
