In the role of behavior coach, along with entire guidance team, we support classroom teachers in developing a safe, calming area in each of their classrooms to support students in learning how to cope with their strong emotions. To create these areas, teachers often spend their own money to provide the students with different tools that help them to calm and stay regulated throughout their day. These donated materials will be available for all students across the building to promote the use of self regulation strategies. Being able to support teachers in creating calming areas in the classrooms will proactively support students who are having a difficult time, ensuring they spend more time in the classroom learning. Our team also creates many individualized plans to meet student needs. Those plans often include additional self-regulation tools and student incentives. Having high interest items available for students can sometimes be the extra motivator that helps them meet their goals and make positive changes in their choices. Thanks for your consideration in supporting our students!
