My students need a calming and special place to sit during our day-to-day activities; a place that is central to their learning and growing experience together. A calming classroom space creates a sense of belonging and community among classmates. Our classroom rug is essential in the first grade as we use it for morning meetings, math calendar time, read alouds, and Smartboard activities. An area rug will provide students with a place of centrality to focus, learn, play, and grow together. While sitting on our comfy area rug, we will use a math calendar to learn about the changing seasons, special days of the year, place values, and develop problem solving skills. I am confident this space will provide students with the resources they need in order to excel within the classroom. Having a special place to meet and learn together will bring a sense of stability and comfort as they will have a space to call their own while safely learning in a cohesive manner.
