Allowing students' minds to expand in the classroom is such a great thing! But, with the eager minds and the lack of space, it's time we do something! My students deserve flexible seating! I want them to be able to have options of where they sit in the classroom so they can be fully engaged and want to learn! Our students need opportunity! My classroom is very structured in all aspects but I've noticed this year that the students want to get out and explore the classroom and what it has to offer. That may sound weird but some students learn better by a window, some by the board, and others enjoy being independent by the bookshelves. Desks are very limited when it comes to space and the number of students we have in the rooms. My students deserve an environment that supports their learning. Flexible seating would accommodate so many of the special needs in my classroom from social skills to expanding the growth of my gifted students. If students are begging to get up and be in other places than a desk, let's EMBRACE that! Let's help scaffold their learning and give them the best chance! This year, I have seen my students work on the carpet and in our couple of chairs around the classroom. The work they produced was phenomenal. I want to let that learning trend GROW! We will have more room for group work, collaboration, and open space for more hands-on experiences! Help us achieve this goal!
