I would like to use these books for an author and illustrator study. Many of my students are interested in writing and/or illustrating and what better way to support them than providing them time with some exceptional examples. I work with a low socioeconomic status demographic of students who lack access to these resources outside of school. An author study provides an amazing opportunity for my students to garner discussions and form their own connections to literature. Not only that, but it provides an opportunity to discuss symbolism in literature, central messages, character traits, plot structure, sequencing and so much more. Lastly, I have many English Language Learning students and I want them to see some superior examples of how the English language (and language in general) can be used to touch hearts and make meaning.
