I always tell students, reading is brain exercise just like running will help condition the body. A brain only gets stronger through repeated exercise just like the body gets stronger through repeated exercise. For this reason, personal reading is highly emphasized in my classroom. Teens are constantly asking me for reading recommendations, but neither my personal library or the school library seems to have the highly engaging material students crave. My classroom library needs some help, so students can find interesting, engaging, and diverse material. With a little added exposure, my goal is to get students to become lifelong readers!
