I was a brand new third grade teacher this past, 2018-2019 school year, and with that requires a lot of spending my own money to help create a positive classroom environment. I have really bonded with my 27 third graders, and have taught them a lot about responsibility and respecting our classroom and that materials in it. However, regardless of how responsible children try to be, wear and tear is inevitable when using second-hand items from a thrift store. Our current rug consistently sheds all over my students' clothing and is pulling at the seams. It's falling apart and my kids are trying their best to keep it together, but since we do the majority of our learning on the carpet, it's falling apart quickly. My kids have been begging me to learn cursive, so I'm hoping with this new rug, we can introduce the concept of cursive before the school year ends at the end of May! Not only that, but since I was a new teacher, there was no furniture in my empty classroom. My students got all the old, left-over chairs that were being kept in storage and they are scratched up, dull, and also falling apart. I am so sure that they would love to use these brightly-colored, shiny new stools as a flexible seating option!
