Kindergarten students come into the classroom with wide variations in previous learning and exposure to books and reading. My hope as an educator is to show my students that stories are a great way to learn about the world and the people in it. Having a classroom library where all students can find books that contain characters who look like them and share their cultural background is imperative in schools. It is also important for all students to learn about different cultures and traditions, and books are a great way for students to see people who are different from them and learn about kindness, acceptance, and inclusivity. My goal is that every student in my class finds a book with characters like themselves that they can dig into and enjoy!
