First grade is a critical year for reading development in students. We have been partnering the last 3 years with Literacy Trust to bring Reading Rescue to our students who need more intensive reading instruction. Through this program, school staff such as paraprofessionals and teachers are specially trained to provide daily, 1:1 reading intervention to specially selected students. This program is most effective when these students can bring the strategies they learned with their 1:1 instructor back to the classroom. These reading center supplies will provide students with the tools they need to take ownership of their reading and become more independent. Students will continue to listen to themselves reading, allowing them work on self monitoring and decoding. Teachers will be excited to incorporate Reading Rescue strategies during their guided reading and literacy centers with an extra supply of magnetic letters.
