Gifted and talented students need to read complex books that are appropriate and interesting for their age. My students already participate in one novel study per semester of school. The books I've chosen will allow my students the opportunity to participate in two additional novel studies throughout the year. Having the books in my students' hands will make the novel study more meaningful than simply listening to me read the book aloud.
Giving students the opportunity to interact with this stellar literature will greatly improve reading motivation and ability! Students will be able to interact with the text, referring back to passages during class discussion and rereading sections for deeper comprehension. Throughout our study of the novels, students will learn various reading strategies, and will stretch their thinking as they study multiple perspectives of characters throughout the stories. Incorporating these two novels into my reading curriculum will help my students become better thinkers and readers!
