My first grade students have only experienced school in a Covid world. They are still learning how school works and how to be successful. I have observed that these students need socio-emotional skills and engaging hands-on learning more than ever before! Some had in-person school, some had hybrid, some were entirely online, and they all have learning to catch up on. Materials like wobbly chairs help especially wiggly kids to focus. Base ten blocks will help them understand place value in a concrete way. Legos and Magna tiles create opportunities for learning through play. All these things help my students learn and thrive, even during uncertain times!
