Recent research has shown that children who are socially competent are more likely to be successful later in life. The skills associated with social-emotional learning are both ‘fundamental for life effectiveness’ and ‘a framework for school improvement.’ Now more than ever we need to help children learn these social skills and respect diversity. One of the most important areas in our room for learning and practicing social emotional skills and diversity is our dramatic play area and unfortunately ours is rather sparse. These materials will help my children expand their imaginations, build social skills and also learn about diversity! They will gain the opportunity to learn about other cultures through multi-cultural dress-up costumes and the multi-cultural baby doll set. The dress-up center will provide them a place to keep all of our new dress-up clothes neat and tidy. While learning about diversity they will also be expanding their imaginations and learning important social skills while interacting with peers in the dramatic play area.
