These students are in the Early Childhood Special Education program. This is a language based environment where we target specific skills that the child has difficulty in. Through play and a lot of small group and 1:1 instruction, I provide the best experiences possible to prepare them for transitioning back with same age peers in Kindergarten. While in my program these students also receive specialized services for speech/language, OT, PT, etc. when needed. Many of my students have started the program at the age of 3 with no or very few words, they are not always toilet trained, and this is their first experience in a structured setting with same age peers. Besides myself in my classroom, I have a wonderful classroom aide. To us both, we are not just showing up to work each day for the job, but rather spending our days with our family. These kids become part of us and we do what we do for them.
