My project is to get an ipad to use as an AAC communication devices for my non-verbal student. Currently he does not have an effective method of communicating. He relies on his behavior or gestures to get his wants and needs met. This has resulted in difficulty accessing curriculum, significantly reducing his participation in activities within the classroom, and positive social experiences with his peers within the school setting. With an iPad, this student would have a customizable AAC communication application installed that would be his “voice.” He would effectively be able to communicate his wants and needs, request items, make comments, express feelings, protest, ask and answer questions, greet, and converse with his/her peers and teachers. He would be able to establish positive relationships with his peers and improve his ability to access curriculum within the general education setting.. Using an iPad as an AAC communication device would lessen my student's frustration with being unable to communicate, reduce negative behaviors, and increase his independence. My student needs to be able to communicate in a way that is most effective for them and I need your help. Please help my student become independent and effective communicators. Thank you so much!!
