The dictionaries I am requesting will help my students learn new words from their readings. In addition, they will foster the opportunity to communicate with fellow classmates. The age-appropriate dictionaries will be used daily during class time daily. The donations to this project will help foster a learning environment where literacy can be explored through print instead of technology. I imagine lessons with dictionary scavenger hunts where students in pairs perform difficult tasks using dictionaries. When students do group work of any kind, it forces them to communicate verbally. Each week as students begin new lessons, new vocabulary is introduced. The dictionaries make this new vocabulary accessible to their learning environment.
