My students need to experience the world beyond their community. They need to learn about different religions than their own, the triumphs of all genders, and become aware of humans of all races. One of the best and most effective way to do this is through quality children's literature that explains and shows these things at a level students can understand and remember. In a society as diverse as our world is today, students who may not get to experience this diversity on a daily basis must be exposed to diversity in other ways to foster acceptance and inclusion at a young age.
