This year we will be starting with distance learning. Having finished out last year this way I learned quickly that the students' homes were full of distractions such as parents, siblings and even pets. The students who had the proper computer equipment were better able to focus and contribute. There is no doubt that face-to-face teaching is the best way to teach. Since that isn't possible, my students deserve every advantage they can get. My 6th graders are required to take increased responsibility for their learning as they prepare to go into Jr. High. In addition, we teach them with Middle School curriculum that is more challenging and complex. Students will be working in home environments with noises and distractions which makes it more difficult for them to learn. By providing each student a quality headset with a microphone, they will be better able to be engaged with the lessons. My students will be able to interact in real time during online, distance learning. We can share personalities, humor, warmth and enthusiasm for teaching and learning. The web camera and wireless headset for me will enable me to move around and create, high-quality, high interest lessons in which my students will be more involved and focused. In addition, they will have access to the recorded videos for reteaching and support as needed. My 7-year-old laptop given to me by my school district doesn't create the quality these 21st century students are used to. By donating to my project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, but you will also ultimately help to increase their academic achievement as they prepare to move to Jr. High school next year.
