I would like to expose my students to computer science at an early age. SCRATCH is a free and easy to use platform for students to be introduced to block-based programming. I am requesting a classroom set of SCRATCH workbooks. My students need these workbooks to engage in activities involving SCRATCH. Students will work in pairs, so I need one book for every 2 students. Sharing books, and working on projects in pairs, also fosters a collaborative environment. Students work on SCRATCH for half the period and then use different robotics kits to apply the coding skills they have learned using SCRATCH. The workbooks are printed on good quality paper, in bright colors. This is enticing to students, and especially helpful, as they try to match the directions in the workbook, to their computer screens. SCRATCH seems to be an excellent way for creative students to engage in designing games and projects. This is an ideal way for artistic students who are interested in technology and gaming, to put their skills to use. Having the workbooks will also enable me to offer differentiated SCRATCH coding to my entire class. This particular series will be especially useful for my beginning coders. Students can then potentially continue their learning in computer science to be able to use this skill to help them in their career.
