My goal is to increase my students desire and motivation to read, by incorporating books into my classroom that are in English and Spanish. As well as, provide books that engage my students interests. May of my students come from homes where Spanish is the primary language. Having books to share with families in English and Spanish assists in improving literacy at school and home. Having a multicultural classroom allows my students to feel safe and comfortable in an environment where they can learn and grow. Through the presents of multi-lingual books, my students feel that their culture is being represented and respected. Having Spanish books allows my students to use and preserve the literacy skills they developed in their native language. These skills can then be transferred to English over time.
