The 2018-2019 school year was my first year teaching Language Arts. I had switched from PE, where the required supplies are a little different. Although I purchased a laundry list of supplies at the start of the year, I quickly realized that either I did not have enough or that students would come to class without basic supplies like pencils, paper and highlighters. My classes are very interactive, where we mark up text, take notes, and create projects to demonstrate our knowledge. Without these necessary supplies, students will demonstrate what they know through means that may not be as engaging and will not stimulate their vivid imaginations. Highlighters, pens and pencils will allow all students to have the supplies necessary to annotate and analyze text. Craft supplies will be instrumental in creating visual projects, like when we designed cartoon characters or decorated our original poetry. Engaging students and fostering lifelong readers and learners is my ultimate goal. These supplies will help me achieve that!
