Many of my students have trouble attending class. Some are providing daycare for siblings so that parents can work, or working jobs themselves to help the family. Some students have trouble attending because of the trauma they have faced or are currently facing. My class is a mixture of leveraging technology and the cognitive benefits of using good old paper and pencil. To help these students, I will use the computer to create mini video lessons with embedded animations, videos, and drawings that they can watch at home or at school. Students then will be able to access these videos, in the classroom or at home, to review class lessons that they may have missed, or wish to review. While there is a wealth of videos on the internet, my students have trouble connecting with someone they do not trust. By creating my own videos and having my students star in them, they gain ownership in the material. They also gain a higher order of understanding of not only of the material, but of technology and software that make it work.
