Reading is a key component to build the Spanish language and literacy skills that my students need, even at the novice levels. Most importantly, students require literature that is comprehensible, interesting, relevant and diverse. Because I have a mixed level of Spanish learners, my library requires a wide variety of levels and interests so that all learners will find a book that is enjoyable and will foster the love for reading and learning, no matter the language! I grew up bilingual and it has opened many doors for me both personally and professionally. It is my dream that my students not only learn Spanish for a year or two, but for a lifetime beyond my classroom. Having easy readers for my students as they begin their journey to becoming biliterate will build their confidence and give them a sense of accomplishment by understanding simple messages in the language. Furthermore, repetitive and prolonged exposure to reading materials will inevitably accelerate their acquisition of the language.
