We are a public school located in central TX. For a majority of our students, English is their second language & Spanish is what is spoken at home. Our students spend a lot of time acting as translators between school staff & their parents. Our school is located in the middle of a working class neighborhood & majority of my kids walk to and from school. Of these kids, most are in charge of rounding up younger siblings, getting them home safely & watching them until an adult comes home. For some, this could be at 7-8pm. 90% of the students in our school qualify for free or reduced lunches. Last year in Reading, 81% of our students met state standards; in Math it was 77% and Science 74%. Those numbers are students who MET the state standards.
