The books that I have requested are for my classroom library and will be used in reading groups. I am trying to build my classroom library with quality literature from across a variety of genres. I also use my classroom library as a "loaner library," where students are encourage to borrow my books to take home to read. In class, my students create hands-on projects with the novels that they read. We focus on mastering reading skills that strengthen comprehension, like making inferences, using text evidence to draw conclusions, and identifying figurative language and point of view. Students keep reading journals and love to use technology to create PowerPoints, Prezis, and other presentations about the novels they read.
