The Perks of Being a Wallflower would serve as an anchor text in a personal narrative writing unit for my students. I chose this particular book because one of the main focuses I have in my personal narrative unit is the importance and potential power of being vulnerable in one's writing. The Perks of Being a Wallflower tells a deeply honest, raw, and, most importantly, relatable story of a high school freshman, and I want it to serve as an example of effective sensitive writing for which my students should strive when they sit down to write their own personal narratives.
