My students have the common misconception that the local Antelope Island State park is roamed by antelope and buffalo. In my classroom we explore the local ecosystems and determine that the island is actually inhabited by pronghorns, bison, and hares. What better way for my students to be inspired by the world around them, than to adventure and experience what our local natural ecosystem has to offer. Experiencing brine shrimp in the shallow waters of the Great Salt Lake while investigating perfectly round Oolitic sand on the beach is an eco-tastic experience for all to enjoy! My students will also be physically challenged to climb to the top of Buffalo Point to explore organisms in their naturally rocky homes. This trip is educational and such an amazing experience that many don't realize is in our own backyard!
