Proficiency with technology is a necessary skill for success. Exposure to Chromebooks, email, Google and other online platforms builds the skills students need to make academic progress. When students are exposed to reading, writing, listening and speaking through multi-sensory experiences, it remediates language-based disabilities and addresses 4 domains of language acquisition and development. Providing students with Chromebooks allows them to practice technology-based skills that they will utilize for their entire academic career and beyond, including signing on to Wi-fi, email, and locating reliable sources of information. Chromebooks further allow students who are non-readers or low-level readers to access material that can be electronically read aloud to them which is critical during times when a teacher is helping other students. The Google platform has a voice-typing option in Google docs for students who have difficulty writing, typing or spelling. Google is utilized by the entire Worcester Public School system, and early exposure to Google Docs for word processing, as well as email and Google Classroom, provides students with disabilities with additional practice and experience with a life-long skill set.
