Creating a sensory room for the students in my classroom will allow students to calm their bodies so that they can return to the classroom and get back to working towards meeting their goals of being productive, independent adults. Many of my students have sensory needs that aren't being met in the best way possible. Creating a seperate space where students have the opportunity to have access to what they need to do heavy work, or quiet work will allow for a personalized, differentiated environment. Punching bags, crash pads, and trampolines will allow students who need a heavy sensory diet to get the input that they need in order to keep themselves and others safe. Smaller items are needed like the coloring books, puzzles, and sand in order to provide other students who become overwhelmed at school with a calming sensory system.
