My students are very fortunate to be surrounded by classmates who are very different from each other. Sometimes knowing about different cultures is different from understanding the cultures. Although our reading curriculum has amazing books, not all of my students are fairly represented. These picture books will allow my students to feel important, and they will share willingly about themselves. It will open new doors to learning. All cultures and religions should be celebrated with excitement! Our country is very special and unique since we are made of so many cultures. My goal as a teacher is getting my students academically ready but also become well-rounded citizens with open minds. All of these multicultural picture books will give my students the opportunity to not only learn about the characteristics of a culture but respect the beauty of it. We can't always travel the world to meet different people, but we can surely read about them! With all of these wonderful books, my students will need space to enjoy them! With the different types of seating, my students will have the freedom to choose the best place to escape the real world and jump into the world of the book. Reading should be seen as exciting and not as another assignment. The flexible seating will create a fun, loving environment for reading.
