These books will help build the print-rich classroom that is so important for growing readers. Every day my students spend time reading their independent book to themselves. By having more culturally relevant books in my classroom, my students will become life-long lovers of reading. All of these books have been chosen to assure my students have an accurate representation of events that are close to my students' heart: Hispanic culture. With these culturally relevant books, my students will put themselves into the story, promoting a life-long love of reading. Many of my students never know what to read next. By having books that are interesting to them, my students will share what they are reading; these books will be passed from learner to learner. My students have already shown an interest in independent reading, and I know this project will introduce my blossoming readers to characters and experiences that remind them of who they are.
